What is it?
Planning and creating content for audience consumption. Covers a wide range of mediums including text, video, audio or graphics. Media can be informative, educational, entertaining or ideally be a combination of these. It’s usually created to cater for specific audiences or demographics.
Media production starts off with an idea or brief, which is then planned for specific mediums and channels, and developed to elicit responses from target audiences.
Although creativity is involved in media production, media producers usually use data to gauge how their content will perform and develop subsequent related content based on the performance of previous productions.
As a general example, the Transformers Movies franchise continues to be made despite low critical acclaim because each instalment makes at least ~3x its own budget – proving that the audience it’s aimed at continues to spend money to watch it.
What I’ve done
Planned, shot and directed infomercials, advertisements, short films, and live TV. Designed sets and lighting. Performed editing in single-camera productions and vision mixing in live, multi-camera broadcasts. Created video for a range of audiences and channels, including theatre viewing, conferences, and social media.
Designed motion graphics content as standalone projects and as insets for larger video productions.
Produced designs for magazines, business cards, logos, flyers and posters, using InDesign and Illustrator.
Project managed video productions and print publications. Consulted on screenplay development and proofread screenplays.
Proofread and quality controlled videos, audio productions, logos, graphics, text, presentations, websites, photographs, user interfaces, mock-ups, posters and probably a lot more I can’t think of right now. 😀
